Elizabethan Polychrome Coif

Adding to my collection of embroidered Elizabethan items, this one is a polychrome coif.

3rd Oct, 2004

Here is the design for the coif, it is using the same flower designs as in the Elizabethan sweetbag, but will use detached buttonhole instead of tent stitch:

I will be using some silk floss I got from China. This is a real floss, much closer to the type of thread used in the Elizabethan period, much better than what I have used previously. The stems will be done in imitation Japanese gold thread in plaited braid stitch. I haven't decided if I am going to line it or not yet. I have to do some more research.

The pattern was transferred to the fabric using transfer pencil. All the stitching so far is in detached buttonhole stitch. You outline each motif in chain stitch and then work the detached buttonhole.

8th June, 2006

Did another 4 hours. Up to 7 hours total.
